Parnda Guthu is a historic and sacred ancestral house located in Barya village, Belthangady Taluk, Karnataka, India. With a rich history spanning over 700 years, Parnda Guthu represents the deep-rooted traditions, spirituality, and cultural heritage of the Billava community in the Tulunadu region.

The name “Parnda” comes from the Tulu word meaning “banana,” symbolizing fertility, purity, and spiritual important’s of soil . In Hinduism, the banana plant holds a highly sacred place, representing prosperity and divine blessings. Similarly, the soil of Parnda Guthu is considered pure, sacred, and highly respected for generations.

The estate of Parnda Guthu is famously known as “Darmada/Sathyada Jage” in Tulu, meaning “the Land of Dharma and Truth.” It has been a center of spiritual practices, Bhoota worship (Bhuta Kola), and village traditions for centuries.

A particularly sacred area within Parnda Guthu is the Daverna Kanda — the “God’s Field,” an ancient paddy field dedicated to divine energies. In the Daverna Kanda stands a massive religious tree known as Kinigoli Mara, estimated to be over 300 years old. This area is called “Gadhi Padina Jage” in Tulu and holds immense spiritual significance.

For over 500 years, Dhompada Bali, a traditional Bhuta Kola festival, has been conducted here, continuing the legacy of honoring the spirits and deities that protect the village and its people.

Adjacent to the Daverna Kanda lies sacred shrines including:

Raktheshwari Maisandya Naga Bhana — a holy site for serpent and Raktheshwari worship.

Within Parnda Guthu itself, several powerful village deities (Daivas) are worshipped with great devotion, such as:

Grama Daiva Panjurli (the guardian spirit of the village)

Rajan Daiva Kalkuda and Kaluti (head protector spirits)

Varnara Panjurli

Panjurli Daiva (one of the primary divine protectors)

Kaluti Daiva (associated with safeguarding the land and dharma)

Guliga Daiva

These deities continue to be revered by the family and the surrounding community, preserving ancient customs and spiritual connections.

Parnda Guthu stands as a living heritage, embodying the spirit of Dharma, tradition, spirituality, and cultural pride of the Tulunadu region. It invites present and future generations to experience the deep sacredness and vibrant history of their ancestral land
