Dhompada Bali at Parnda Guthu — 500+ Years of Divine Tradition

A History of Over 500 Years

The sacred festival of Dhompada Bali has been celebrated for more than 500 years at Parnda Guthu in Barya village, Belthangady Taluk.

This Bhoota Kola festival is dedicated to the Grama Daiva Panjurli and holds a special place in the spiritual heart of Tulu Nadu.

Originally, the Bhandara (the ornaments and deity Murthy of Panjurli Daiva) was brought ceremoniously from the Barya Temple to Deverna Kanda, a spiritually powerful place within the Parnda Guthu estate.

At Deverna Kanda:

The grand festival of Dhompada Bali would take place.

It was celebrated with utmost devotion, rituals, and Bhoota dance performances.

The Sacred Landmark — Gadi Padina Jage

The Deverna Kanda is also called the Gadi Padina Jage in Tulu.

“Gadi Padina Jage” means a spiritual landmark place —
a piece of land set aside and protected for religious and divine purposes.

This land is considered sacred .

It is believed to be a direct link between the earthly world and the spirit world.

Along with Bhoota Kola, another important cultural tradition — the Korida Katta — was performed here:

Korida Katta is a traditional Tulu Nadu buffalo race and game.

It used to be held at this sacred site, making Deverna Kanda not only a center of worship but also of village culture and unity.

The Divine Miracle

At one point in history:

Due to conflicts and political issues, the Dhompada Bali festival was moved to another location.

But during the Bhoota Kola at the new place, a miracle happened.

The Daiva Panjurli:

Ran away from the new location,

Returned to Deverna Kanda at Parnda Guthu,

Began dancing at the original sacred spot.

This divine action was seen as a clear message:
Parnda Guthu’s Deverna Kanda is the true spiritual home of Dhompada Bali.

Since that miracle:

Dhompada Bali has continued to be held at Deverna Kanda, Parnda Guthu for centuries without interruption.

The place remains a symbol of truth, tradition, and divine protection.
